Donald Trump is suing his own government for $10 billion, and the proposed settlement could hand him total control over a $1.7 billion taxpayer-funded compensation fund with virtually no oversight. Hawk walks through the details of Trump's IRS lawsuit, filed after a rogue IRS agent leaked his tax return information and was subsequently imprisoned for three years. Despite the agent being prosecuted, Trump sued anyway.
The proposed settlement, being negotiated between Trump loyalist Todd Blanch at the Department of Justice and the IRS, would establish a fund to compensate anyone who claims they were harmed by what the administration calls the Biden weaponization of the justice system. That includes the Proud Boys, the Oath Keepers, and the 1,600 January 6th insurrectionists Trump already pardoned on day one of his second term.
The commission overseeing the disbursement of $1.7 billion in taxpayer dollars would be composed of five members, all hand-picked by Trump. The commission would have no obligation to disclose its procedures, decision-making process, or the names of recipients. Trump would retain the authority to remove any commission member at will, without cause.
A federal judge has scheduled a May 27th hearing to determine whether the case can legally proceed at all. The executive branch suing the executive branch creates no diversity of parties, no adverse parties, which is why the lawsuit is likely to be thrown out. The urgency behind the settlement push makes the intent clear.
Hawk calls out the unprecedented use of taxpayer funds with zero accountability, and names the 2024 Trump voters as directly responsible for where the country now stands.
