On the first of two days of Todd Blanche's confirmation hearings to become Attorney General, Hawk did something that might surprise people who follow him for daily political coverage: he took the day off. He went to bed the night before knowing that watching live would send him into a rage and do real damage to his mental health, so he ran errands, did projects around the house, and let the coverage happen without him.

He did catch about twenty minutes of it. In that stretch, Blanche testified that the president not only has the power to take total control of the Justice Department but a duty to do so, which Hawk notes would be a first for a likely Attorney General. He also flags Jay Clayton's hearing to lead national intelligence, and Clayton's office authorizing subpoenas to New York Times reporters over coverage of the Qatari plane.

The heart of this one is Hawk's case for stepping back. He is not a reporter, it is not his job to watch eight hours of this live, and choosing not to marinate in it is legitimate self care. He also touches on Katie Phang's lawsuit against Blanche over the Epstein Files Transparency Act.
