Todd Blanche and Jay Clayton both said exactly what everyone knew they would say in their confirmation hearings, Blanche to become Attorney General and Clayton to lead national intelligence. When Jon Ossoff asked Clayton who won the 2020 election, he declined to answer, continuing a streak in which Hawk cannot recall a single Trump nominee willing to say plainly that Trump lost. Chuck Grassley opened Blanche's hearing by praising his handling of the Epstein files.
Hawk's argument is that the hearings were never really about the nominees. They were about Senate Republicans, who know what they are voting for and are doing it anyway. In his view they understand that Blanche and Clayton will do whatever Trump asks of them, and they are choosing their own positions and their own safety over the country, still deferring to a president who is a lame duck.
It ends where Hawk's midterm video ended, in frustration. He believes both men will be confirmed, that the administration will use every lever available heading into November, and that all he can offer is what he says in every video: register to vote, and check your voter registration once a week between now and Election Day.
