Trump threatened military action against Iran, then agreed to a two-week extension on his 8 p.m. deadline after Pakistan's Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif proposed a ceasefire framework. The problem: Trump publicly claimed the proposal came from Iran. It did not. Iran had already terminated all negotiations and indirect contact earlier that day in response to Trump's Truth Social post warning that an entire civilization would die that night.
The New York Times confirmed Iran was not budging as the deadline neared. Three Iranian officials told the paper that Tehran had stopped engaging even through mediators. Iran has not agreed to the Pakistan-brokered ceasefire, and Trump's account of events is false. Retired Army Major General Randy Manor told MSNBC's Nicole Wallace that senior military officials are already rejecting target lists coming from Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth. Meanwhile, Hegseth is clashing with Army Secretary Dan Driscoll, and Hegseth's own spokesman Sean Parnell is reportedly angling for Driscoll's job.
Tucker Carlson called Trump the Antichrist over the Iran threats. A new Pew Research poll shows 60% of Americans now hold an unfavorable view of Israel, up from 53% the prior year, with unfavorable views of Benjamin Netanyahu rising alongside. Brent crude hit $144 a barrel. Diesel is nearing $9 a gallon in parts of Europe and over $6.50 in Northern California. Iran still has its regime intact, 15,000 missiles, 45,000 drones, and believes it is winning. The Strait of Hormuz has been closed for four to five weeks. A global recession is on the horizon if it stays shut.
