FBI Director Kash Patel is at the center of a growing controversy after investigative reporter Sara Fitzpatrick of The Atlantic published a deeply sourced story citing more than two dozen senior officials from the FBI, the DOJ, and the White House alleging that Patel is frequently intoxicated and has been found incapacitated in public. Patel denied the allegations and filed a $250 million defamation lawsuit against Fitzpatrick within days of publication.
Rather than quieting the story, the lawsuit had the opposite effect. Dozens more sources came forward, leading to a second report revealing that Patel has cases of his own personally branded bourbon, etched with his name and the FBI badge, which he distributes freely. Patel has also opened an FBI investigation into Fitzpatrick, making her the second female reporter he has directed the bureau to investigate after negative coverage. The FBI additionally raided the home of a Black Virginia state senator who successfully led the state's redistricting effort, raising serious concerns about the weaponization of federal law enforcement. Hawk draws sharp comparisons between Patel's actions and his own book, "Government Gangsters," in which he accused Democrats of using the DOJ and FBI as political weapons.
