CNN anchor Erin Burnett aired disturbing voicemail recordings left for Democratic Congressman Jason Crow and five other veteran lawmakers after Donald Trump posted on Truth Social demanding their arrest and trial for sedition. The six members of Congress, Senator Mark Kelly, Senator Alyssa Slotkin, Representative Jason Crow, Representative Chris Deluzio, Representative Maggie Goodlander, and Representative Chrissy Houlahan, all veterans of the armed forces and CIA, released a video reminding military and intelligence personnel of their legal obligation to refuse illegal orders.
Trump responded by calling their actions seditious behavior and suggested an example must be set, with Truth Social users posting calls to hang the lawmakers. Capitol Police placed the targeted lawmakers under 24/7 security following an instantaneous increase in threats. The voicemails featured explicit death threats against the lawmakers and their families. Senator Alyssa Slotkin confirmed on MSNBC that law enforcement was stationed outside her house after Trump's post.
The six veteran lawmakers were simply restating existing military law regarding illegal orders, yet faced violent backlash from MAGA supporters. The incident raises questions about political violence, presidential rhetoric, and the safety of elected officials who uphold constitutional obligations. Erin Burnett highlighted the real and alarming consequences of presidential threats against sitting members of Congress.
