Social Media Companies Are Destroying Young People's Brains the Same Way Heroin Does

Paul Krugman published a powerful piece calling America a digital narco state, comparing social media companies to heroin dealers who operate without restrictions or regulations. Social media algorithms are engineered to be addictive, particularly to young people, teenagers, and kids. The damage these platforms inflict is staggering, yet no one in government will stand up to these companies despite their increasingly naked corruption of US politics through massive political donations enabled by Citizens United and cryptocurrency deals.

Australia recently implemented a nationwide ban preventing anyone under 16 from using social media because algorithms are destroying young minds. Red pilling content targets boys as young as 10 or 12 years old, teaching them to hate women before they're old enough to understand what they're consuming. When 12-year-olds get fed this content through addictive social media feeds, they don't have the capacity to make informed choices like adults over 18 do.

Social media companies know the harm their products inflict, similar to how heroin industry executives would understand the damage their drugs cause. These platforms have become a significant part of GDP while simultaneously harming and often destroying the mental health of those who consume them. The addiction, the algorithms, and the complete lack of regulation mean America will pay the price for this damage for a very long time. Politicians refuse to regulate social media companies because these tech giants have purchased enough political influence to block any attempts to limit the harm they cause to young people.
