Hawk opens up about one of the most personal corners of his life: the dogs who have kept him grounded through his darkest moments. Living with ADHD and a content creator's relentless schedule, Hawk rarely revisits his own videos, but one made the day before stopped him cold. A video about suicide and feeling suicidal pulled him back in, and with it came the memory of Oscar, the yellow lab he had from age 16 through his early 30s. Oscar was there through high school, college, law school, a crumbling marriage, and the first time Hawk ever felt suicidal. When Oscar passed, Hawk says those years around 2001 and 2002 were among the most brutal of his life.

Then in December 2010, at a Humane Society in Marin County, a nine-month-old Chihuahua-Dachshund mix named Tanner chose him. Hawk is fully convinced that Oscar's soul came back in Tanner's small body. Same coloring, same personality, same unspoken connection through eye contact. Now living in the mountains, Hawk takes Tanner and his other dog Lila on long morning walks, watches them sleep in the sun, and feels genuinely at peace knowing that the dog who once saved his life might still be right there beside him.

A rare, honest look at mental health, grief, dogs, reincarnation, and finding your way through.
