4:09Now PlayingCharles Salley was the rapper's legal name. He wrote an incendiary letter informing his witness that he could be "stabbed up" Dark Lo, a Philadelphia rapper and rising star, was sentenced to 7 1/2 year imprisonment on Friday for threating a witness in the federal drug conspiracy case.
The artist apologized to court for suggesting to a government witness he could be "stabbed up" if the rapper testified against Abdul "AR-Ab", his labelmate, during Abdul West's criminal case in 2019.
The rapper sent a threatening note to Donte "Taz Stewart," a member of his crew, which Stewart flipped and then cooperated with the government.
The witness was threatened with violence by the letter and his girlfriend if he did not tell the truth during testimony.
Dark Lo appeared in court on the day that Tez's testimony was being given, during AR-Ab’s 2019 trial. Dark Lol was arrested by the feds at his Delaware home and charged with witness tampering.
Dark Lo said that he did not mean to intimidate anyone.
U.S. District Judge Mark A. Kearney stated Friday that Salley, who escaped drug addiction and became a rap world phenom by overcoming his drug use, should have known better.
Kearney stated, "You are the wordsmith." You chose these words. "... You can write words to create effects." Salley's sentence is just one of many legal developments that have almost ended Original Block Hustlaz (the gangsta rap collective he cofounded with West).
