as posted by the channelAfter the Treaty of Brest-Litovsk Ukraine came in German and Austrian hands. At first the Germans worked together with the Ukrainian Rada of the Ukrainian National Republic (UNR; a.k.a. Ukrainian People's Republic; UPR). However in April they approved a coup against the Rada as the Ukrainian State was established with Russian-speaking former tsarist officer Pavlo Skoropadskyi as Hetman of Ukraine. The forces of the Central Powers attacked the peasants to seize their grain. Resistance was the result: either by the Left Socialist-Revolutionaries, or by the anarchist movement of Nestor Makhno: the Blacks that ran the Free Territory of Ukraine, also known as Makhnovschina.
