Dr. Esther Hamori, a Yale-trained scholar, NYU PhD, and the first full-time Jewish professor at Union Theological Seminary, joins me to pull back the curtain on God's monstrous entourage. From Resheph, a Canaanite deity marching at God's feet into cosmic battle, to Dever and Hebyon, actual demons whose names have been deliberately buried under generic English words like "plague" and "pestilence," we explore how English translations have systematically hidden an entire pantheon lurking in the biblical text. We dig into how Satan was never God's enemy but his divine prosecutor, how the Chronicler quietly swapped God out of a mass killing and blamed Satan instead, and how the Ugaritic tablets discovered at Ras Shamra in 1928 finally cracked open verses that had been untranslatable for centuries.
We also examine God hardening Pharaoh's heart just to flex, sending snakes to bite his own people for complaining, and trying to murder Balaam for obeying a direct order — then explore how God and Satan are still collaborating as a team well into the New Testament.
