More than 1,100 private security guards work in Hawaiʻi airports.
One of the Līhuʻe airport guards accused in the death of a 53-year-old man they had restrained didn’t have a state security guard license at the time of the incident. He had been fired from the Kauaʻi Police Department for misconduct.
Several private security companies have paid fines for failing to ensure staff were certified. Matthew Leonard has more on this industry.
