Russia is Still Fighting for Communism

Why Communists around the world have an ABSOLUTE obligation to support Russia in the SMO. Among the international left, there is a consensus that because Russia officially abandoned Communist ideology in 1991 with the dissolution of the USSR, that Russia can somehow be characterized as 'imperialist' or representing global capitalism - but nohting can be farther from the truth. The truth is that the end of the USSR left an ideological vacuum that was never filled.

Russia's geopolitical interests are absolutely synonymous with the socialistic material relations of production created under the USSR - from the basic infrastructure to way of living of the people of the various former Soviet territories who long for reunion in order to re-invigorate and electrify the decaying Soviet foundation that they still take for granted.

Russia never moved on from its past. Communism remains the foundation of modern Russia and the majority of Russians both within the Russian Federation and within former Soviet territories. No new ideological, theoretical or systemic paradigm has replaced it. Instead, a cult of 'stability,' which simply seeks to maintain the necrotic status quo at all costs, has prevailed - one that neither fulfilled any comprehensive 'de-communization' nor updated Russia's Communist hardware to the modern age.

Leftists who oppose Russia because Putin has made comments critical of Communism fail to understand the context: Most Russians, MATERIALLY SPEAKING, take the Communist foundation built from the USSR for granted, so much so that most aren't even actively aware it is still there. The SMO, which the COMMUNIST PARTY was lobbying for for years, does not fulfill the interests of any 'Russian ruling class' whatsoever, but is rather an assertion of the vestigial foundation of Soviet Communism that Russia, for decades, was supposed to feel guilty for, repudiate and abandon - but which it could not.

The conflict in the donbass is ultimate proof of that fact - that Russia has unfinished business with its Communist past, and it is the duty of international Communists to show solidarity with the Russian people struggling for their right to continue to pursue the path of alternative modernity ushered in by Soviet Communism.
