The stickers cite historical records to call out figures from the city’s past as owners of enslaved people. The names are familiar: Stuyvesant, Bergen, Nostrand. It’s part of a new initiative known as Slavers of New York, the work of a trio of activists. Elsa Waithe, one of the project’s creators, told Inside Edition Digital, “The fact of the matter is, a lot of people don't know what's around them." #InsideEdition
