Chief Of Sheriff’s Department K-9 Unit Charged With Death Of 2 Dogs In Hot Car

A sheriff's sergeant in Salem County, New Jersey, has been charged after two dogs in his care perished, according to authorities. The sheriff’s department chief of its K-9 unit, Cody Henderson, left dogs Rip and Boomer unattended in his police cruiser for seven hours, according to prosecutors. The Belgian malinois and springer spaniel died from "likely hyperthermia/heatstroke," according to court documents. Henderson is charged with "failing to provide [Rip and Boomer] with necessary care, resulting in death."
