Un-redacted TRUE BELIEVER 3-day Countdown

My second novel, TRUE BELIEVER, was inspired by my time in Iraq in 2006 working for what can best be described as a covert action program for “another government agency.” It was a very formative time in my development as a combat leader and student of war. I was one of a very small number of Americans working with an entirely Iraqi unit attached to a ministry of the Iraqi government. One of our Iraqi counterparts stood out as quite adept in intelligence gathering as well as the planning and execution of tactical missions that would have strategic implications. Years later, far removed from the battlefield, I learned that he had disappeared… There is more to the story I can’t reveal, suffice to say his disappearance became the foundation for TRUE BELIEVER. I could not be more excited to launch the paperback version this Tuesday because unlike the redactions in THE TERMINAL LIST, I appealed the 54 redactions in TRUE BELIEVER to the Department of Defense and won in 37 instances. Those 37 initial redactions from the hardback printing are now un-redacted in the paperback version. Readers who are curious can now see what the government deemed too sensitive for a political thriller. Most have to do with a certain country in North Africa that I visited prior to joining the military and never had any connection to while in uniform. Why did they black out everything related to that country in the hardback to include the type or architecture, a description of mountains “in the distance” and an airbase that to my knowledge does not exist?
