Equipped with a 75mm gun as well as an optional single hatchmounted .50 caliber machine gun (plus two lighter .30 cals positioned in the turret and forward hull), the Sherman was easily maintained on the battlefields of Europe and while it lacked the range and firepower of the German Panther and fear factor of the Tiger Tank, its speed, manoeuvrability and fast rate of fire made it an ideal workhorse. More recently, the M4 Sherman starred in the Hollywood blockbuster "Fury" (2014), with Brad Pitt and Shia LaBeouf.
