1:40Now PlayingMonths ahead of the midterm elections, President Donald Trump delivered a primetime address last Thursday and claimed that the U.S. election system is in danger. Trump provided no evidence to back up his claim.
Moderator Jeffrey Goldberg asked The Atlantic’s Anne Applebaum if there evidence that U.S. elections are in danger from foreign interference or "other nefarious players that Donald Trump believes exist out there."
"There's no evidence at all, and actually, he didn't produce any,” Applebaum told Goldberg, noting that there's no evidence another foreign nation has changed votes, affected voting machines or altered an election’s outcome.
“There's a series of institutions that have been created, going back decades actually, that are designed to prevent foreign interference and other interference, and actually the Trump administration [has] pretty systematically dismantled them," Applebaum added.
