6:46Now PlayingFormer CIA analyst Larry Johnson joins the show to react to Donald Trump's admission on Sean Hannity's show that the US has no national interest in the Iran war and is fighting it "to help Israel and to help Saudi Arabia and to help Qatar and UAE and Kuwait and Bahrain" as well as China—a stunning concession that Johnson says reveals the war was never about Iranian nukes but about punishing Iran for overthrowing a US-installed dictator in 1979.
Johnson notes that Trump's admission that he told China "we're helping you" would be seen by Beijing as confirmation that the US has depleted its weapons systems fighting Iran, leaving America weakened while China benefits. Jimmy traces US hostility toward Iran back to the CIA's 1953 overthrow of democratically elected Mohammad Mossadegh, who wanted to nationalize Iranian oil for his own people, and the subsequent installation of the Shah—a brutal dictator whose overthrow by an organic Iranian revolution the US has "never forgiven."
Johnson concludes that the nuclear excuse is a "red herring" and that the real reason for the war is that the US cannot tolerate a country that defies American control and sets up its own independent government.
