Iran war update

·       NYT: a US military investigation has reportedly found that the US carried out the deadly Tomahawk strike on an Iranian elementary school.

·       Trump’s team is already inventing a new war excuse, with Witkoff now claiming Iran would have had 30 to 40 nuclear bombs within a year if Trump hadn’t attacked.

·       The war is spreading across the Gulf: Oman says it downed a drone near Duqm, video shows a major oil tank fire there, and both the UAE and Qatar say they intercepted Iranian missiles or drones.

·       Iran attacked three cargo ships in or near the Strait of Hormuz overnight, and it reportedly has 5,000 to 6,000 naval mines it could use to threaten shipping.

·       Iran is now threatening continuous strikes on its neighbors and talking about $200 oil; gas in the US is up to $3.58 a gallon, and the IEA is releasing 400 million barrels from emergency reserves.

·       The US military is warning Iranian civilians to stay away from ports along the Strait of Hormuz, which may signal possible US strikes on those port facilities.

·       CBS reports the Iranian drone attack in Kuwait was worse than previously known: dozens of US troops suffered brain trauma, shrapnel wounds, and burns, and more than 30 were still hospitalized yesterday.

·       Iran’s new supreme leader, Mojtaba Khamenei, was reportedly injured in a US-Israeli strike, suffering a fractured foot and facial cuts.

·       CNN says Russia is helping Iran use advanced drone tactics from the Ukraine war, even as Trump and his people keep insisting Putin can be trusted.

·       The NYT reports Iran may still have as much as half its missiles and launchers left, meaning it kept major capabilities in reserve.

·       Reports that Ahmadinejad was killed now appear to be wrong; new reports say coalition strikes may actually have freed him from a regime prison.

·       Public support for this war is just 41 percent, historically low compared with Afghanistan at 92 percent, the 1991 Gulf War at 82 percent, Iraq in 2003 at 76 percent, Kosovo at 58 percent, and Libya at 47 percent.
