Kings and Generals animated historical documentary series on the middle ages and crusades continues with the first video in our series on the Second Crusade. Previously, we have covered the First (youtu.be/kxfP_BSnmyw), Third (youtu.be/jCyCSgsFXKQ) and Fourth Crusades (youtu.be/uZ5wPyqk3s) and our coverage starts with the battle of Ager Sanguinis the Field of Blood in 1119, as the rise of Ilghazi of the Artukids threatens the Crusader states leading to the clash with Roger of Salerno and the Principate of Antioch (youtu.be/0vsJwqFmNQg). In the aftermath, Ilghazi continued to attack the Crusader territory, leading to the battle of Hab, as king Baldwin counterattacked (youtu.be/pYaEmggEsEM). In the third episode we described the fate of Ilghazi and the battle of Didgori (youtu.be/cqi9dPI_Vw), Baldwin's captivity, Venetian Crusade of 11221124 and the Battle of Tyre (youtu.be/wwHOYmyC04k), while the episode 4 will cover the battle of Azaz, during which the Crusaders managed to turn the tide (youtu.be/Y6cnE7SyTZ4), while the 5th described the Damascene Crusade, as the Crusaders attacked the Emirate of Damascus in another failed crusade, as well as the appearance of the Nizari Assassins in the region (youtu.be/mlctSFIvifU). Meanwhile, Crusaders' situation would grow worse with the rise of Imad alDin Zengi their worst nightmare before Saladin, which lead to the battle of Montferrand (Ba'rin) in 1137 (youtu.be/IuNHc95BtEc). Over the next years, the Eastern Roman Emperor John III also intervened into the events, but the siege and fall of Edessa in 1444 took the center stage, triggering the beginning of the Second Crusade (youtu.be/fASljjlfT2k). In Europe, Pope Eugenius III called for a new Crusade, which was promoted by Bernard of Clairvaux. French crusaders led by king Louis VII and German crusader led by Conrad III answered the call and moved towards the Levant, which sparked a short conflict with the Eastern Roman empire in Constantinople in 1147 and then the second battle of Dorylaeum against the Seljuks (), followed by the battles of Meander and Mount Cadmus.
