Kings and Generals historical animated documentary series on the history of the early modern world, continues with a video on the second video on the golden age of Piracy. In the first video we talked about the rise of the pirates (), while this second video will describe how the pirates were defeated. After the War of the Spanish Succession, Nassau became the heart of the Golden Age of Piracy, ruled by infamous figures flying the Black Flag. In this episode, we explore the dramatic fall of the Pirate Republic and the events that ended piracy in the Caribbean. From the death of Sam Bellamy and the wreck of the Whydah Galley, to King George I’s royal pardon that split the pirates of Nassau, the balance of power began to shift. We follow Woodes Rogers’ arrival as Governor of the Bahamas and his struggle to restore British rule amid disease, unrest, and looming Spanish threats. The story then turns to Blackbeard’s final gamble, including the Charleston blockade and his betrayal of Stede Bonnet. The hunt culminates in the Battle of Ocracoke, where Lieutenant Robert Maynard confronted Blackbeard in one of history’s most famous pirate battles.
