Kings and Generals began remaking its animated historical documentary on the history of the Ottoman empire. The first season covered the Rise of the Ottoman Empire from the humble beginnings as a small Turkic Beylik to the Fall of Constantinople 1453 covering all the major battles (), while the second season covered the reign of Mehmed II (). In the 1490s, Sultan Bayezid II’s Ottoman Empire entered a new phase of power, diplomacy, and expansion. With his brother Cem still held in Europe and Hungary weakened by the death of Matthias Corvinus, Bayezid resumed raiding across the frontier. Croatia soon became the scene of tragedy. In 1493, Ban Emerik Derenčin and the Frankopan nobles confronted Hadım Yakup Pasha’s akıncı cavalry at Krbava Field. Choosing open battle over ambush, the Croatian army was drawn into a deadly Ottoman trap, resulting in one of the greatest disasters in Croatian history. Meanwhile, Poland and Moldavia became the next battleground. John Albert of Poland dreamed of a crusade against the Ottomans, but Stephen the Great of Moldavia, backed by Ottoman allies, shattered the Polish campaign at Suceava and Cosmin’s Forest. Ottoman raiders then struck deep into Poland, forcing peace by 1499. The episode also follows the final years of Cem Sultan, whose captivity shaped OttomanEuropean diplomacy, and Bayezid’s reception of Sephardic Jewish refugees after the Alhambra Decree, a policy that transformed Ottoman cities and commerce for generations.
