Kings and Generals animated historical documentary series on modern warfare the Great War and the Ottoman history during the World War I. Previously we covered the Rise of the Ottoman Empire from the humble beginnings as a small Turkic Beylik to the Fall of Constantinople 1453 covering all the major battles including () and the reign of Mehmet II (). By the summer of 1915, the Ottoman Empire seemed battered on every front, yet Gallipoli became the battlefield where its survival was decided. This episode follows the climactic August Offensive, as British, Australian, New Zealand, Indian, and Ottoman forces fought across Lone Pine, The Nek, Chunuk Bair, Suvla Bay, Scimitar Hill, and Hill 60. The Entente hoped fresh landings and a breakthrough through the Sari Bair range would finally open the Dardanelles and threaten Istanbul. Instead, confusion, terrain, fierce Ottoman resistance, and Mustafa Kemal’s counterattacks turned the offensive into disaster. But Gallipoli was only one part of the wider Ottoman war. As the Allies prepared evacuation, Bulgaria joined the Central Powers, linking Berlin and Istanbul by rail and strengthening Ottoman logistics. In Mesopotamia, Townshend captured Kut but pushed too far toward Baghdad, leading to the bloody Battle of Ctesiphon and the beginning of the siege of Kut. Meanwhile, German and Ottoman agents tried to ignite revolt in Persia, only to be checked by Russian and British countermeasures.
