It's because this is not completely accurate and can actually confuse people if we don't follow up with details. In addition, the words "conservative" and "liberal" can turn people off because of the emotions behind them. This is just my feeling and I'm not necessarily against this phrase completely. If you are trying to introduce the movement to someone who has no idea what we stand for and you are fairly new to the movement and don't feel that you have the ability to explain better yet, fine. But, we need to move the conversation to our core of non-aggression, self-ownership and property as soon as possible. If we can get people to embrace this, without them shutting off, then we can get the populace to understand that we are actually the biggest tent movement on the planet. This was originally posted on Being Libertarian. EDIT: Words like "Responsible" and "Compassionate" can be effective as an intro.
