McCabe & Torgalski both pleaded not guilty in court. Fellow officers showed support during their court hearing. Fifty-seven officers resigned from the department in solidarity. The victim remains in the hospital in critical condition. The Buffalo Police Department initially claimed the victim "tripped and fell."
The Death of George Floyd has ignited renewed requests for reform. Protestors are now calling for defunding of police. There have been calls to reinvest in community-led public safety efforts. Minneapolis city council supports defunding the police. MN mayor was booed at a protest for opposition to disbandment.
KY EMT Breonna Taylor was Gunned down by police in March. Supporters started a social media campaign #JusticeforBreonna.
Taylor died during a no-knock search warrant. Calls for banning no-knock warrants have increased. Taylor's boyfriend exchanged shots with police. Family of the victim filed a wrongful death suit. Louisville The FBI has opened a probe into Taylor's death. Officers who were involved have been placed on administrative Leave. To date, no charges have been filed against the officers.
