Thirty-three-year-old Martinez’s car was still in the parking lot when police arrived. Investigators believe his phone was thrown in a dumpster by Sewell after he allegedly killed the officer. Sewell, a convicted sex offender, was released from prison in 2021 after serving 25 years behind bars for the rape of a physicist. Sewell has yet to enter a plea after being charged with Martinez’s murder.
