Defense attorney Marissa Elkins presented a brief statement, explaining to the jury “The question in the trial won’t be ‘if you find Mr. Scanlon guilty?’, it will be ‘what you find him guilty of?’” Scanlon is accused of stabbing his 20-year-old girlfriend, Alexis Avery, to death at their home in 2019. Scanlon is being charged with first-degree murder, and assault and battery with a dangerous weapon.
