Prosecutors also pointed to Madden's courtroom confession before the trial started, where he said, “I’m responsible for what happened to her. I didn’t mean it. I’m so so sorry. I love you.”

Toby Madden was charged with murder and assault in October 2022 after he allegedly stabbed his partner, Rachelle Brewsaugh, more than 55 times in the chest, head, knees, shoulders, hands, and abdomen. The couple had moved into a new house just a week before the gruesome murder. Madden pleaded not guilty and claims someone else killed Brewsaugh, as he had a bounty out for him for drugs. If convicted, Madden faces life in prison.
