Earlier in the day, Horner pleaded guilty to the 2022 kidnapping and murder of 7-year-old Athena Strand. Defense attorneys argued that Horner suffers from significant mental health issues and permanent brain injuries sustained prior to his birth. They contend these pre-existing conditions played a critical role in the events that led to the child’s death in November 2022.
