5:04Now PlayingChair of the Merseyside Police Federation, Chris McGlade, details to Carol Vorderman the scale of injuries Merseyside police officers have been subject to after the riots in Southport and the impact that events in the town this week will have on the police's morale.
39 police officers have been confirmed as injured, with 11 taken to hospital, and a police van set on fire as the riots erupted on Tuesday.
Officers were standing guard outside the building near Hart Street at around 7:45pm when a group of men, believed to be connected to the far-right English Defence League, started launching stones and bottles towards them and attacking the riot vans.
'There's been broken ankles, broken fingers, concussions, people who have lost their teeth... it's disgusting', McGlade tells Carol.
