Dominique Pelicot, 72, was found guilty of drugging his ex-wife, Gisèle, raping her and inviting dozens of men to also abuse her over nearly a decade.
All 51 men have been found guilty today - being jailed for a total of more than 400 years.
James O'Brien reflects on the significance of this shocking and historic mass rape trial, and praises the woman at the centre of it for her bravery and 'revolutionary' actions in waiving her lifelong anonymity that she had the legal right to retain.
