The centerpiece: a $220 million taxpayer-funded ad campaign starring Noem on horseback at Mount Rushmore in chaps and a cowboy hat — produced through no-bid contracts awarded to a company called Safe America Media, which was incorporated just 11 days before receiving $143 million. Safe America then subcontracted to the Strategy Group, run by Benjamin Yoho — the husband of Noem's former chief spokesperson Tricia McLaughlin — the same firm that produced her 2022 gubernatorial campaign ads in South Dakota. The firm also has ties to Corey Lewandowski, Noem's senior adviser and alleged romantic partner. When Sen. John Kennedy grilled Noem under oath, she said Trump signed off on the campaign. The White House said he didn't. Kennedy told reporters Trump was "pissed." The hosts offer two theories: Trump couldn't stand an ad that was all about her and barely featured him, and he was furious about a $220 million grift he didn't get a piece of. Two days after her congressional testimony, she was fired and replaced by Sen. Markwayne Mullin.
