11:47Now PlayingAttorneys Brian Kabateck and Shant Karnikian cover what might be the most absurd appointment in the Trump administration — and the bar for that is high. Gregg Phillips, the head of FEMA's Office of Response and Recovery, the agency's largest division responsible for coordinating federal disaster operations and distributing billions in aid, has publicly claimed on multiple podcasts that he was teleported by God to a Waffle House in Rome, Georgia, 50 miles from where he'd been. He also claims his car was once "lifted up" and teleported 40 miles into a ditch near a church. He described Satan speaking to him on a hike across Spain. He said he collapsed in a Lowe's and woke up in a McDonald's parking lot with a Big Mac in his lap. Employees at multiple Waffle House locations told the New York Times they don't remember seeing him arrive by teleportation or any other means. Phillips later said his comments were made while he was heavily medicated during cancer treatment, but also described them as miracles performed by God and doubled down on social media: "Haters gonna hate." Beyond the supernatural claims, Phillips is also a major election conspiracy theorist who co-produced "2000 Mules," has been banned from doing business with the state of Texas, and has no professional emergency management experience. Democratic lawmakers have called him "wildly unfit." Trump's response when asked about it: "That sounds a little strange."
