The green victory in Gorton and Denton was helped along by a healthy dose of Muslim "family voting". This is when the patriarchs in a family tell their wives how to vote.
It's a pretty neat trick if you've got several wives.
Bizarrely, lots of left-wing commentators spoke out to defend family voting. These are the same people who were condemning the patriarchy up until five minutes ago. Turns out they do like the patriarchy, but only when it's helping to destroy the West.
It wasn't the only way the Green Party appealed to Gorton's Muslim community. The legalisation of heroin got the vote of the area's Afghan poppy farmers.
