Andy Burnham is the David Brent of British politics. He's desperate to be liked, which does make a change from the grim managerialism of Keir Starmer, who seemed content to be loathed.
But behind the cheesy Gallagherisms and forced bonhomie lurks the spectre of authoritarian socialism. He's appointed two Hope Not Hate directors to senior positions in his team. This Labour administration will have a vicious Stasi smearing and attacking political dissidents - anyone on the right, basically.
Also, when Andy and his wife were still boyfriend and girlfriend, she asked his permission to go on Cilla Black's Blind Date TV show, and he said yes. I find that very strange. And I remember that episode!
