13:32Now PlayingKuwait’s retail sector has pulled French products in a boycott triggered by the display of cartoons of the Prophet Mohammad in a French class on freedom of expression, whose teacher was then beheaded by a Chechen teenager. France’s foreign affairs ministry stated there had been mass campaigns to boycott French products, particularly food products, in numerous Middle Eastern countries and calls for demonstrations against France over the cartoons. “These calls for boycott are baseless and should stop immediately, as well as all attacks against our country, which are being pushed by a radical minority,” the ministry said. The non-governmental Union of Consumer Co-operative Societies of Kuwait, which groups more than 70 establishments, issued the boycott directive on Oct. 23rd. The head of the union, Fahd Al-Kishti, told Reuters that the products had been removed in response to “repeated insults” against the Prophet.
