The case centers on suspects like 22-year-old Sefa O., accused of a “leading role” in the violence, with video evidence showing him punching and kicking Israeli fans. Despite his actions, Sefa O. expressed regret, stating he wanted to “start a new life” with his family. Prosecutors also highlighted provocative behavior by Maccabi Tel Aviv fans, who were accused of burning a Palestinian flag and chanting anti-Arab slogans before the attacks. The incident, which Amsterdam’s mayor, Femke Halsema, described as “unbearable” and “deeply damaging,” has fueled tensions in the city, sparking debate over the role of political conflict in exacerbating community divisions.
