27:02Now PlayingThe Mormon church gave me some whacky ideas, and for the first 44 years of my life, I believed these ideas were **truth**.
I wasn't born believing them. I was taught them!
This video isn't just about Mormonism. It's about the patriarchal religious systems that teach girls they exist for men, that obedience is holiness, and that questioning authority is a sin. Those messages shape women long before we're old enough to think critically or choose for ourselves.
As a former Mormon, Christian nationalist, and religious conservative, I know what it's like to have your identity built by someone else's beliefs. Today, I believe every child deserves freedom of conscience—the right to decide what they believe without fear, shame, or indoctrination.
In this video, I share five of the most damaging beliefs I learned as a child and introduce my proposal: the Prohibit Childhood Religious Indoctrination and Protect Children's Freedom of Belief Bill.
Do children deserve religious freedom—or the freedom to choose their own beliefs?
I'd love to hear your thoughts in the comments.
