n what might be the most unsurprising revelation ever, President Joe Biden was so determined to pull U.S. forces out of Afghanistan that he apparently brushed off everyone military experts, U.S. allies in NATO, and even Afghan officials themselves. According to a blistering report by the House Foreign Affairs Committee, released after more than two years of investigation, Biden’s resolve to end the 20year war trumped every warning, making the chaotic and deadly withdrawal a foregone conclusion. The 350-page report generously reminds us that Biden has never been one to trust the advice of military experts, be it during his tenure as a U.S. senator, vice president, or president. Nope, Joe’s got his own ideas, and this time, those ideas apparently boiled down to rushing an ill-prepared, ill-planned, and ill-fated exit, consequences be damned. The cherry on top? The Biden administration apparently misled the American public, trying to spin the withdrawal as if the situation was under control when, in reality, it was falling apart faster than you can say "Doha Agreement."

Let’s not forget, Biden was quick to blame Trump’s Doha Agreement with the Taliban — an agreement which was supposed to hinge on certain Taliban obligations — for “forcing his hand.” But as this report suggests, Biden didn’t really care much for details like Taliban compliance or NATO’s objections. Why bother? After all, the decision had already been made, and the rest was just background noise.

Oh, and if you thought things couldn’t get worse, the report also reveals that Biden’s administration didn’t even order a proper non-combatant evacuation until the day after Kabul fell. Yes, you read that right. Two weeks before the last U.S. troops left, they finally started scrambling to figure out how to evacuate civilians. Bravo, team.

The report also casts a little shadow on Vice President Kamala Harris, reminding us that she proudly boasted about being the last person in the room when Biden made the final withdrawal decision. One wonders if she might regret that claim now.
