56:19Now PlayingZohran Mamdani is selling New Yorkers a utopian dream wrapped in the language of “restorative justice.” It’s the kind of phrase that plays well at academic conferences and activist rallies, but in the real world it translates into chaos. Restorative justice isn’t about punishment or deterrence; it’s about conversation. Put the offender and the victim together, let them talk it out, and supposedly crime disappears. But New Yorkers know better. You can’t chat a predator out of preying.
Now bolt this theory onto Mamdani’s plan to erase all misdemeanor charges. That means no real consequences for shoplifting, fare evasion, petty assaults, open drug use, or even low-level drunk driving. This isn’t reform, it’s an E-ZPass for criminals—commit the crime, shrug it off, and do it again tomorrow.
The results of these “progressive” experiments are already written in other cities. San Francisco gutted misdemeanor enforcement, and theft exploded. Stores shuttered, residents fled, and the city turned into a warning sign. Philadelphia, Portland, and Seattle tried the same thing. The pattern was identical: rising crime, collapsing quality of life, and a sense that government was siding with offenders over citizens.
New Yorkers also lived through Alvin Bragg’s disastrous experiment when Manhattan’s DA downgraded charges in the name of reform. The streets became a revolving door for criminals who mocked cops and terrorized communities. Mamdani would multiply that failure across the entire city.
Without consequences, there is no deterrence. Without deterrence, crime surges. That isn’t justice. It’s surrender.
