5:09Now PlayingRocket Lab launches its Electron vehicle with five small satellites headed for low earth orbit for the French company Kinéis from Rocket Lab's New Zealand site. Kineis is an Internet of Things (IoT) company in France.
Rocket Lab has called the launch "No Time Toulouse," a nod to the French city in which Kinéis is based.
The 5 satellites will be deployed into low Earth orbit, 395 miles (635 kilometers) above the surface of the planet. They're the first of Kinéis' planned 25 satellites for their IoT constellation.
Kinéis’ new constellation can connect any object anywhere in the world and transmit data to users in near-real time with low energy consumption, explained a representative from Rocket Lab.
"The constellation also includes a second mission: a ship-tracking Automatic Identification System (AIS)," the company added. "Once deployed, these technologies will allow Kinéis to expand across multiple industries and scale from 20,000 devices connected to millions."
