11:17Now PlayingAuthorities say multiple people sustained injuries following an attack in Boulder, Colorado, on Sunday.
Police Chief Steve Redfearn said in a Sunday evening press conference that the motive is currently unknown and under investigation through witness interviews. He emphasized that "speculating on the motive at this early stage would be irresponsible."
Boulder police reported "several victims" with injuries consistent with being set on fire. As a result of the incident, police evacuated several blocks of the usually busy pedestrian mall. Colorado Governor Jared Polis issued a statement saying he was "closely monitoring" the situation and emphasized that "hate-filled acts of any kind are unacceptable."
"We are aware of and fully investigating a targeted terror attack in Boulder, Colorado. Our agents and local law enforcement are on the scene already, and we will share updates as more information becomes available," FBI Director Kash Patel said in a post on "X."
"I am closely monitoring the situation in Boulder, and my thoughts go out to the people who have been injured and impacted by this heinous act of terror. Hate-filled acts of any kind are unacceptable. While details emerge, the state works with local and federal law enforcement to support this investigation. More information will be provided as it becomes available," Colorado Gov. Jared Polis also said in a statement on "X."
The Boulder Jewish Community issued a joint statement. “We are saddened and heartbroken to learn that an incendiary device was thrown at walkers at the Run for Their Lives walk on Pearl Street as they were raising awareness for the hostages still held in Gaza.” The statement went on to say, “We don’t have all the details of what is unfolding, and we promise to keep our community informed.”
