National Guard preparing for unrest, training rapid-response force

We are learning this evening of reports that the National Guard plans to train hundreds of troops in each state to be part of a rapid-response force focused on civil disturbance missions. This comes from two U.S. officials who spoke to Reuters this week, with plans to begin operations by the start of next year. LiveNOW’s Austin Westfall is speaking with Hal Kempfer, a retired Marine Intelligence Officer and national security analyst.

Earlier this year, President Trump deployed troops to cities like Washington, D.C. and Los Angeles. "We have cities that have trouble. We can't have cities that are troubled, and we're sending in our National Guard," Trump told an assembly of U.S. sailors and Japanese allies during his recent trip to Asia. "And if we need more than the National Guard, we'll send more than the National Guard, because we're going to have safe cities. We're not going to have people killed in our cities."
