Trump orders nuclear weapons testing following Russian missile tests

We are getting more information tonight after President Donald Trump appeared to suggest the U.S. would resume testing nuclear weapons for the first time in three decades. As President Trump made his way back from Asia, he said the tests would be on an “equal basis” with Russia and China. For the moment, Trump has offered few details about what seemed to be a significant shift in U.S. policy. LiveNOW’s Austin Westfall is speaking with Andrea Stricker, a Nuclear Proliferation Expert with The Foundation for Defense of Democracies.

Trump wrote on social media Wednesday night, that "The United States has more Nuclear Weapons than any other country. This was accomplished, including a complete update and renovation of existing weapons, during my First Term in office."

"Because of the tremendous destructive power, I HATED to do it, but had no choice! Russia is second, and China is a distant third, but will be even within 5 years," Trump said. "Because of other countries’ testing programs, I have instructed the Department of War to start testing our Nuclear Weapons on an equal basis. That process will begin immediately."
