10:21Now PlayingWe have been watching for the latest updates today after Artemis II made history as the Orion spacecraft flew by the moon's surface, traveling farther than the Apollo 13 mission in 1970. NASA astronauts Reid Wiseman, Victor Glover, Christina Koch, and Canadian astronaut Jeremy Hansen are working to photograph, analyze, and report on some 30 targets on the lunar surface. LiveNOW’s Mike Pache is speaking with Asa Stahl, Science Editor for the Planetary Society, as NASA expects to temporarily lose communication with the crew as the Orion spacecraft passes behind the Moon.
According to reports, the Artemis II crew is set to enter a nerve-wracking communications blackout Monday evening as the spacecraft slips behind the Moon’s far side. NASA said the expected signal loss should last roughly 40 minutes, beginning at 6:44 p.m. ET.
