State investigators searched Jeffrey Epstein’s former New Mexico property, known as Zorro Ranch, for possible human remains after documents released under the Epstein Files Transparency Act revealed no record that federal authorities had ever searched the estate. That omission raised new questions because multiple civil lawsuits filed years earlier accused Epstein of sexually assaulting girls at the ranch, allegations for which he was never criminally charged.

In 2019, New Mexico State Land Commissioner Stephanie Garcia Richard’s office received an anonymous email claiming that the bodies of two foreign girls were buried near Epstein’s property. According to the message, both girls had allegedly died by strangulation during what the writer described as rough, fetish sex. The sender said they were a former staff member at the ranch. The email was later forwarded to the FBI by then-candidate Garrett VeneKlasen’s campaign manager, Michael Aragon, and is now included among the millions of pages released in the Epstein files.
