My guest today is William Costello, a doctoral researcher in Evolutionary Psychology at the University of Texas at Austin. William has published several empirical articles on the psychology of incels (involuntary celibates) along with government research on behalf of the Commission for Countering Extremism.
We spoke about what the Netflix series 'Adolescence' gets wrong about incel ideology – as well as the demographics of teenage murderers – why incels are not necessarily far right (nor ugly!), why incels serve as a useful scapegoat for wider societal problems, and whether involuntary childlessness among women is a plausible female analogue to being an incel.
