My guest today is Darel E. Paul, Professor of Political Science at Williams College, and a specialist in the study of elite ideologies in the West.
We spoke today about one such elite ideology: the LGBT rights movement, which has achieved a great deal since the early 1990s, when Americans still mostly expressed hostility to homosexuality. We discussed Darel's book 'From Toleration to Equality', about the political process by which the LGBT movement became mainstream. We also spoke about the changing meaning of marriage, why highly educated women are the most socially liberal group, and how the rainbow flag attained its cultural dominance.
