Bijan Omrani is an historian, classicist, and research fellow at the University of Exeter. His most recent book is titled (somewhat provocatively) 'God is an Englishman: How Christianity Created England.'
We spoke about how little we know about pre-Christian Britain, why Christianity swept through the country so rapidly during the Early Middle Ages, the violent suppression of English translations of the Bible, and – in the extended section – why the Temperance Movement was motivated by feminist concerns.
